Local Triathlon Club to welcome 800 triathletes this weekend

Lanesboro Triathlon Club will host the Two Provinces Triathlon this Friday and Saturday.
The Two Provinces Triathlon, hosted by Lanesboro Triathlon Club takes place this Friday and Saturday (July 11th and 12th) and this year has been selected by Triathlon Ireland to host the 2025 Sprint National Championship.
This prestigious appointment, where Ireland’s national sprint champions will be crowned, is a testament to the dedication of the club, supporters, and marshals who ensure the event's annual success.
Established in 2010 by Lanesboro Triathlon Club, the Two Provinces Triathlon has earned its place as a long-standing event on the Triathlon Ireland National Series, the nation's premier triathlon league.
Year after year, it attracts participants from every region of Ireland and is consistently recognised as one of the best organised and most enjoyable events on the calendar.
Race Director Niall Mulvihill paid tribute to the support received locally.
"This race thrives thanks to the phenomenal backing of the Lanesboro, Ballyleague, and Cloontuskert communities. It is their tireless support that transforms this event into a resounding success. The remarkable mobilisation of up to 200 marshals each year is a testament to their commitment to ensuring a safe and exceptional experience for every athlete."
"The race's significant progress and expansion are a direct result of the generous and ongoing support from longstanding sponsors Cooney Homevalue Hardware, Brendan Cooney states “It’s magnificent to see the natural amenities available to us being used for recreational purposes in this way, the midlands and west.”
This year the race is delighted to receive sponsorship from EirGrid.
Speaking this week Engagement Specialist with EirGrid, Iain Flattery, said: "We at EirGrid are delighted to support this fantastic event. As we work to transform the electricity grid to cater for more renewable energy and deliver a more resilient power system, we recognise that communities are at the heart of this work. Upgrading the grid requires not only infrastructure delivery, but also support from stakeholders and local groups, and we look forward to continuing to engage with communities in this region."
Additionally, grants from Longford County Council and LEADER funding provided by Longford Community Resources Limited alongside the generous support from local sponsors have been essential. Without their collective assistance, the event would not have achieved its current level of success.
