Fiona Tully has been named as a Team Ireland captain for the upcoming World 4-Wall Championships.

A Roscommon handballer will lead Team Ireland at the upcoming oneills.com World 4-Wall Championships.

Fiona Tully of St. Coman’s handball club will captain Team Ireland alongside Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy.

The St. Coman’s handballer has enjoyed a stellar year to date. Tully won gold with Ciara Mahon (Kilkenny) in the senior women’s doubles at the oneills.com World Wallball Championships.

The Roscommon woman was supposed to compete alongside Catriona Casey in the doubles competition, but the Cork native suffered a knee injury in her singles quarter final. Tully and Mahon had never played together before the event but managed to produce a series of impressive displays to secure gold.

Tully also claimed silver in the World Wallball Championships after being defeated by Limerick’s Martina McMahon in the singles decider.

The Kilbride ladies footballer reached her maiden 4-Wall All-Ireland Senior Singles Championship final earlier this year but was defeated by Casey in the showpiece event.

Last year, Tully progressed through to the final of an Invitational World Championships, which were held in Minnesota. She was beaten by Casey in the decider.

Due to the World Championships not being held in 2021, it was decided that the US Nationals doubled as the World Championships with Tully coming within one victory of scooping two major honours.

The 2024 World 4-Wall Handball Championships will take place from October 26-November 3 in Croke Park and other Leinster venues.
