Creggs claimed the Connacht Junior Cup for the first time in 32 years as they produced a classy display to end their famine.
The winners were full value for this triumph as a ferocious start paved the way for Creggs to complete a treble.
Creggs moved 12-0 in front inside the opening 10 minutes as this success means they have won the Junior Cup, J1A League and Cawley Cup this season, a special achievement after the club celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.
Winger Mikey Dunne helped Creggs enjoy the perfect start as he crossed the try line after three minutes before Brian Diffley bagged his side’s second try after Dunmore were reduced to 14 players.
This helped Creggs lead 12-0 although considering their dominance and the fact they enjoyed wind advantage, they would have been disappointed not to add to their tally.
On the stroke of half time, Mark Dowd crossed and although the conversion drifted wide, Creggs enjoyed a healthy 17-0 lead.
Dunmore fought back and managed to resurrect their hopes with a try from Jamie Bowens.
But, Creggs came straight back as a backline move straight off the training ground resulted in Mark Purcell scoring under the posts to move Creggs 24-7 in front.
Then James Brandon crossed for an unconverted try as Creggs moved on the cusp of further history.
Although Dunmore hit back with two late tries with Dean Slattery and Bradley Hughes both crossing, captain Brandon bagged his side's sixth try to ensure Creggs were comfortably and deservedly crowned Connacht Junior Cup winners for the first time since 1993.
Meanwhile, Creggs’ Seconds lost out 17-12 to Castlebar in the Connacht Junior Plate final.
Despite four Callum Fahey penalties, Westport prevailed as Simon Staunton’s late try denied Creggs an historic double although they have enjoyed no shortage of high moments in a brilliant season for the club.
