Local rugby volunteers honoured by IRFU at Aviva Stadium

Kieran Dowd, Creggs RFC, receives his Service To Rugby award from IRFU President, Declan Madden, at a special ceremony in the Aviva Stadium last weekend.
A number of local rugby volunteers were honoured by the IRFU at its Service To Rugby awards in the Aviva Stadium last weekend.
Kieran Dowd (Creggs RFC), Michael Silke (Buccaneers RFC) and Ciarán McBrien (Carrick on Shannon RFC) were among those recognised for making a significant contribution to the development of the game in Ireland.
The awards were presented by IRFU President, Declan Madden.
The special recognition awards were presented to 100 volunteers from across the country, who were nominated by their schools and clubs, as part of the IRFU’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
Creggs RFC paid tribute to Kieran Dowd by saying: “As we celebrate our 50th year in Creggs, Kieran has been involved for almost 40 of those years, from underage rugby, club captain, president, treasurer and numerous committee positions. He was fundamental in the new development and a justifiable winner of this award.
“Thanks Kieran for your input to make our little village club a wee bit bigger.”

Buccaneers RFC praised Michael Silke’s “dedication, passion, and tireless efforts” over many decades.
“Michael’s commitment to Buccaneers RFC has contributed to the success of the club and game across the region,” said Buccaneers.
“Known for his encyclopedic knowledge, Michael has long been the heartbeat of Buccaneers RFC. His detailed match reports, insightful commentary, and genuine love for the club have helped capture the memories and milestones of generations of Buccs players.
"Few can match his enthusiasm on a frosty Saturday afternoon or his presence at every event, big or small, always championing the club.
“Michael embodies everything that is great about rugby — loyalty, respect, community, and passion. His recognition for his service to promoting the sport is not just a personal milestone but a celebration for all of us who have been lucky enough to volunteer alongside him.”

Carrick on Shannon RFC said that Ciarán McBrien’s outstanding contribution to the club and the wider community was an inspiration to everyone, adding that his “dedication, passion, and tireless work over the years” had made a lasting impact in helping to grow and strengthen the game.
