One of County Roscommon’s brightest rugby prospects has been selected on the Irish Rugby squad for this summer's tour of Georgia and Portugal.

Darragh Murray from Brideswell is one of 11 uncapped players named by Head Coach Paul O’Connell for the games against Georgia on July 5th and Portugal on July 12th.

With many of Ireland’s first-choice personnel on Lions duty this summer, including Head Coach Andy Farrell, the upcoming games will provide the Irish management with an opportunity to build squad depth and expose players with potential to game time in a green jersey.

If Murray wins his first Irish cap, he will be the first Roscommon man to do so since his Connacht team-mate, Jack Carty.

Murray was called up to the squad for last spring’s Six Nations clash against France at the Aviva Stadium, but didn't feature against Les Bleus.

The former Roscommon underage footballer has been part of Emerging Ireland and Ireland A squads over the past year.
