It has been labelled as one of the most iconic Irish sports pictures of 2026 so far — and there’s a Rossie in there, part of the historic occasion.
Few people expected Ireland to humble England 42-21 in last Saturday’s Six Nations game in Twickenham.
But Andy Farrell’s men produced a superb performance to ignite their Championship hopes and leave themselves with a real possibility of winning a Triple Crown with games against Wales and Scotland to come at the Aviva Stadium.
As Ireland started to win all the big collisions, scoring five tries in the process, the television cameras panned to the Irish coaches’ box where Johnny Sexton, Paul O’Connell, Simon Easterby and Andy Farrell celebrated in unison.
Behind them, a disappointed Catherine, Princess of Wales, reflected the disappointment amongst English ranks.
But, in front of the Irish coaches’ box, Connacht second-row and Brideswell native, a smiling Darragh Murray (second from right), summed up the delight coursing through the veins of Irish fans in London and those tuned in on television around the world.
Murray has been part of Ireland’s Six Nations squad this season, and while he has been released back to Connacht for the western province’s URC (United Rugby Championship) game away to Glasgow this weekend, a first Six Nations cap cannot be far away.
