A County Roscommon native has made the starting cut for the Ireland team’s opening game against France in this season’s Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
South Roscommon native, Aoibheann Reilly, has been picked at scrum-half in Head Coach Scott Bemand’s side for the match at Stade Marie-Marvingt on Saturday next.
Daughter of Stephen and Fionnuala Reilly from Creagh, Aoibheann is a former Pádraig Pearses and Roscommon U-16 ladies’ footballer. She is a dual rugby player who is involved with both the Ireland 7s and the Ireland 15s teams.
She made her Six Nations debut for the Ireland 15s team against Wales in March 2022. Her brother Colm is part of the Connacht Rugby men’s first team squad.
In January, she was part of the Ireland Women’s Rugby Sevens team that won the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Perth for the first time.
Beibhinn Parsons from Ballinasloe — also a former pupil of Creagh National School — has been selected on the wing for Saturday’s game.
The game kicks off at 2.15 p.m. Irish time on Saturday next and will be live on RTÉ.
