A County Roscommon native has helped Drogheda United to the club’s second ever FAI Cup title.

Former Boyle Celtic player James Bolger played the full game as Drogheda secured a 2-0 win over Derry City at the Aviva Stadium.

Andrew Quinn and Douglas James-Taylor got the goals to secure a first major trophy for the club since they won the League of Ireland 17 years ago.

The win is a major boost for Drogheda United Louth as they also secured European action for 2025 ahead of next weekend's promotion/relegation play-off with Bray Wanderers.

Son of Catherine and Francis Bolger, the Corrigeenroe native signed for Drogheda from Swedish side Bodens BK at the start of the season.

He is also a nephew of Peter Bolger who managed the North Roscommon team in this year's senior football championship.
