Timothy sets new Irish record at Paralympic Games in Paris

The local cyclist pulled a brilliant performance out of the bag

There may be no medal race for Richael Timothy later this afternoon in the C1-3 3000m women's individual pursuit, but the Ballymoe woman still pulled a brilliant performance out of the bag at the Paralympic Games in Paris.

The former Roscommon ladies’ footballer went in Heat 2 of 5, and she blasted her way around the velodrome to post a faster time than her opponent, Qian Wangwei from China.

By the end of the 3,000 metres, Timothy had posted a time of 4:05:247, which was a new PB and an Irish record.

But the competitors in the remaining three heats, who went on to post three world records, went faster, leaving Timothy in seventh place.

However, it was still a very satisfactory start for Timothy in what is her second Paralympic Games.
