Roscommon minor ladies’ football manager, Trevor Clohessy, hailed his side’s fearlessness as the county rewrote the history books at Kingspan Breffni on Thursday evening.

A comfortable 3-13 to 1-8 victory against Down procured Roscommon’s berth in an All-Ireland LGFA Minor A final for the first time since 1991, leaving Clohessy to admit that both players and management were “over the moon”.

“It’s just absolutely incredible. We had a lot of pre-game anxiety. It’s 34 years since Roscommon were in an All-Ireland (A) semi-final.

“But you can see what it means to Roscommon — families, mothers, daughters, fathers, they’re all here. They’re all celebrating. It’s just an incredible achievement for these girls. We’re really over the moon.

“As soon as we won Connacht, we gave them two to three weeks off. But they came to us that night and said they only wanted a week off. They wanted to go straight back into it, and that was the trigger,” he revealed.

Cork’s 2-15 to 1-11 victory against Dublin in the other semi-final means that Roscommon will be facing one of the powerhouses in ladies’ football in the decider, but Clohessy vowed that his players would rise to the challenge.

“There’s no fear in these girls. Bring on Cork. They haven’t achieved this in such a long time. These girls fear nobody. We’ve been the underdog all season and we’ll be the underdog for the Cork game.

“We’ve a lot respect for Cork, they’re an incredible team. But bring it on!”
