“Threading the story of Hanna Greally” is a cloth panel created by a group of Roscommon textile artists.

Using a variety of stitch media, embroidery, quilting, hand and machine stitching, applique, surface design and embellishments, Geraldine Beirne, Frances Crowe, Immacula Deane, Rosaleen Martin, Riona McGuinness and Lynn Naughton have succeeded in making a unique series of works.

This powerful collection celebrates the stories of remarkable women across generations- from Lady Betty to Maureen O Sullivan- with a focus on Hanna Greally, whose work courageously exposed life inside Ireland’s mid-20th century psychiatric intuitions.

It is the third in a series depicting local historical women. All three pieces are now on display at the offices of Roscommon County Council during the month of May for the Bealtaine festival and can be viewed during office hours. Supported by Roscommon Arts Office, through the slow arts bursary.

On Thursday, May 21st at 10.30 a.m. the artists will remember Hanna and honour her with a short presentation about her life and times, inviting people who knew her to share stories of her many years living in Fourmilehouse.

Light refreshments will be served, all are welcome.
