Masses will be celebrated in Tibohine Church on this Tuesday, November 21st at 7 p.m. for Fairymount & Tibohine Parish and in Ballinagare Church on Friday, November 24th next at 7 p.m. for Frenchpark & Ballinagare Parish.

The peaceful death took place, after a long illness, of Mr Patrick McGrath, Carrowreagh, Ballinagare on Monday, November 14th last at the University Hospital in Galway. Known locally as Patsy, he was predeceased by his wife, Kay and his infant son, PJ. He is deeply regretted by his sons, Paul, Dermot and Kieran; granddaughter, Isabelle; daughter-in-law, Niamh; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and his many friends. His remains were removed from Gibbons Funeral Home to the Sacred Heart Church, Ballinagare on Friday, November 17th last. Following Mass of the Resurrection, celebrated by the local clergy, the funeral proceeded to Drummin Cemetery in Ballinagare.
The sudden death took place of Mr Gavin Mulvey, Newbridge, County Kildare and formerly of Glencullen, Dublin on Saturday, November 4th last at Naas General Hospital. He was grandson of the late Ned O’Connor, formerly of Leitrim, Fairymount. Gavin will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, Sylvia; children, Iarla and Eilís; parents, Gerry and Mary; sister, Tina; brothers, Adam and Neil; extended family, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and a large circle of friends. His remains were removed to St. Patrick’s Church, Glencullen on Thursday, November 9th for Requiem Mass, followed afterwards by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Dr. James Gerard Bradley, Knockroe, Castlerea; Mr Matthew Perry, Los Angeles, United States; Mrs Myra Leydon, Ballyfarnon, Boyle and Mr Terry O'Neill, Summerhill & formerly of Cloughanboy, Athlone. May they rest in peace.
Masses will be held in Tibohine on Tuesday (21st) at 7 p.m.; in Frenchpark at 7 p.m on Thursday (23rd); in Ballinagare at 7 p.m. on Friday (24th); in Tibohine at 6.30 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8 p.m. on Saturday (25th); in Frenchpark at 10 a.m. and Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday (26th). Rosary, Prayer and Adoration will continue in Fairymount Church on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. during the month of November.
Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, November 18th last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 10, 14, 23 and 34. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were John Butler, Dayle Clarke, Michelle Hanily, Margaret Leydon and Bernie Sharkey. The next draw (jackpot €10,300) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on Saturday, November 25th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

Line dancing classes, with Mildred Beirne, take place in Frenchpark Hall on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.(7.30 p.m.) for beginners or anyone who wants to learn a few steps before the main class begins.

Due to the effects of Storm Debi, last week’s planned November meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk was postponed. The lecture, entitled ‘A Symbol of West Britonism in Ireland: The O’Conor Don and the Culture and Politics of liberal Catholicism and Catholic unionism, 1860 – 1906’, by Dr Aidan Enright will be given at a later date, likely to be in the New Year. The AGM of the Society will take place on Tuesday, December 12th at the usual time of 8 p.m. in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre.
Prayers were recited at weekend Masses for the late Mr Thomas McGreevy of Limerick and late of Ballyglass and Pauline Ward, Kilrooskey, aunt of Dolores Farrell of Clooneyogan and Denise Simms of Manor.
Bulletin number six of the Tulsk Morning Howl, a publication produced by the Tulsk History Society, contains articles from the past including two articles from Strokestown Democrat, one from December 1915 (‘Snow Storm’ was the alias used by the Tulsk notes writer) and an another on Killina Draughts from December 1924. From a Dictionary of Roscommon Biography, Mike Lennon remembers Felix Dowell (1640-1707), a Roman Catholic priest and martyr. Notes for lay Catholic organisation the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Tulsk Division, from Roscommon Messenger April 1912 are also included.
The Annual General Meeting of Tulsk Lord Edwards GAA Club will take place on Sunday, December 10th at 5pm in the GAA Clubrooms.
The death has taken place of Mr John (Johnny) Shannon, late of Carane, Castleplunkett surrounded by his family in the care of the staff at the Roscommon Hospice. The deceased is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Peter (Carane); daughter, Bernadette (Farrell, Ballymacurley); grandchildren, Eileen, Raymond, John, Áine, Patsy, James, Maire, Anthony and Peter; daughter-in-law, Geraldine; son-in-law, Brian; sisters-in-law, Mary Rudden, Julia Walsh, Cecelia McLoughlin and Attracta O’Sullivan; nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends. The deceased reposed at McDonagh’s Funeral Home Castlerea, on Monday before being removed to Ballinaheglish Church. Funeral Mass this morning (Tuesday) at 11 o’clock with burial afterwards in Ballintubber Cemetery.
A number of players from Tulsk GAA Club are taking part in Movember this year, in memory of their good friend Johnny Carroll to raise funds for men’s mental health. For the month of November, as a group, they will be trying their best to grow out their moustaches, do 2,800 press ups (100 for every year the players had with Johnny), some of them are even taking on 100km of running across the month as well. Three of the lads Eoghan, Jimmy and Darren have agreed to shave their heads once the group has a certain amount raised. Any donation no matter the amount, would be greatly appreciated by the lads involved.
Tulsk Camogie Club’s minor and U-18 teams are busy readying themselves for a bake sale on Sunday, December 3rd at Tulsk National School after 11.30 a.m. Mass. The support of the community on the day would be greatly appreciated.

The annual John Kearney Memorial Darts competition will take place on Sunday, November 26th in Flanagan' Pub, Castleplunkett. Names are to be in by 4.30 p.m. and the draw will take place at 5 p.m. Limited to Roscommon county and league players only. Money in, money out plus sponsorship and trophies. Youths half price entry and ladies welcome. There will be a prize for the highest checkout. Refreshments served on the evening. Raffle in aid of Croí with an extensive range of spot prizes. Come along for a great night of entertainment.
Congratulations to Boyle's Enda Smith on winning the county's first All-Star Football award since 2001, Elphin's Sarah Keane on winning the National Scór Amhránaíocht Aonair title and the Castlerea St. Kevin's and St. Brigid's teams on reaching the Connacht Intermediate and Senior Club Championship Finals.
Kilmurry Hall Committee presents an evening of music and social dancing with Noel Briody in Kilmurry Hall on Sunday, December 3rd. Doors open at 7 p.m. with dancing from 8 p.m. to 10p.m.
