Roscommon Racecourse is all set for the next race meet on Tuesday, June 30th for an all-flat card, when we host our biggest flat race of the year. We are looking forward to a classy renewal of the Listed Lenebane Stakes.

It’s a race with a rich roll of honour and comes at the right time of the season for those slow-maturing types who may have taken a bit of time. Last year, the race went to Chally Chute, who subsequently developed into a very useful stakes performer for Ross O’Sullivan.

The now eight-year-old was sent off at 125/1 when he won here last year, but later in the season he went very close to landing the €600,000 Irish Cesarewitch.

The Irish St Leger remains his main aim this year, according to his trainer, who said: “It was great to win the Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon last year. Chally Chute came to me after Mick Halford retired from training in February and he is a joy to have around the place.

He does need soft ground though, so we will pick our spots with him and if the ground is right, he will go to Roscommon. He is owned by Julie Whie who also bred him, and she gets great enjoyment out of him. Although he is eight now, he loves being a racehorse, and we are looking forward to a good season with him.” All the leading names from the flat scene are expected to be at Roscommon next week, and fingers crossed Aidan O’Brien might make an entry for the Lenebane Stakes — with Ryan Moore potentially making the trip.

A big thanks is extended to the sponsors for the evening: The Irish EBF, Jimmy Murray Agri Services, Conor Cassidy Car Sales, Racing TV, and the Cleary family.

The Best Turned Out prizes are sponsored by Roscommon Racecourse CLG.

As always, there will be entertainment after the second-last race. Hopefully, the weather will be kind and we look forward to welcoming you all to Roscommon on Tuesday.
