A Frenchpark resident has been named Right at Home’s Carer of the Year 2025.

Aldo Schembri, representing the Mayo/Roscommon region, received the award at a special ceremony in the Killashee House Hotel, Kildare on October 17th, surrounded by colleagues and fellow carers from across Ireland.

Aldo was one of seven regional finalists in the running for the national title, having already been named Mayo/Roscommon regional winner earlier this month. Nominations for the awards were submitted by clients, family members, co-workers and supervisors who have seen first-hand the positive impact carers make every day.

The judging panel praised Aldo’s empathy, reliability, and genuine warmth which are qualities that have made him not only a trusted carer but a true companion to those he supports.

Expressing his excitement on receiving the award, Aldo said: “I’m deeply honoured to be recognised as Right at Home’s Carer of the Year. This means so much to me because caring for people isn’t just a job but a way of life and I take it very personally to me. I take great pride in knowing I can make someone’s day a little brighter or help them stay comfortable at home. While I am new to caring, it was a calling I was always drawn towards and am grateful to have been seen by the team and the carers for my work. I’m so thankful to my clients for their trust and to my amazing team in Mayo/Roscommon for their support.”

In recognition of the wider care team, several additional awards were also presented on the day.

Speaking at the ceremony, David McKone, managing, director of Right at Home Ireland, said: “We are incredibly proud of Aldo and all of our regional finalists. These awards are about celebrating the heart of what we do, which is people who give their time, energy and compassion to make life better for others."
