Planning for new fisheries base in County Roscommon approved

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has recently been granted permission to build a new fisheries base in the county.

The development will be built at Lackan, Portrunny and will be on council owned land.

In the planning documents, IFI said that the site is “strategically important for the continued essential operations of the inland fisheries”, with its location directly opposite the existing slipway to the water described as key. 

The development will include a single-storey building with a combination of flat and pitched roofs. This building will contain offices, meeting rooms, a canteen, changing facilities, and ancillary areas along with storage facilities for boats and associated equipment.

There will be new vehicular access, entrance walls, driveways, car parking areas, and storage yards, as well as a rainwater harvesting system, ground-mounted solar array, security fencing, and general landscaping.

The development was granted permission subject to 14 conditions.

The application was received in May of this year with the council requesting and receiving further information on the development.
