Progress welcomed on major water remain replacement
2km of a new 5km water main for Cloonfad has now been connected to the network.
A major milestone has been reached in the upgrade of Cloonfad's water network, with 2km of a new 5km water main now connected to the system.
The works form part of a project to replace ageing pipes that have caused repeated bursts and water supply disruptions in the area over several years.
Local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice has welcomed the latest progress.
"This is very positive news that 2 km of the new pipeline has now been connected. There's about 3 km to go and hopefully it'll all be finished before Christmas," he said.
Cllr Fitzmaurice said that while further leaks may occur on older sections of the network as work continues, the newly replaced section will not experience the same problems.

The replacement works come after years of difficulties for local residents, with bursts and outages causing significant disruption.
Paying tribute to the community's patience, Cllr Fitzmaurice said: "Hopefully they'll have a very good Christmas present this year," adding that the people of the area "more than deserve it."
