Teenager killed in County Mayo road traffic collision

A teenage pedestrian has been killed in a road traffic collision, which occurred near Claremorris, Co. Mayo, yesterday evening, Saturday.

The collision involving a car and a pedestrian occurred on the N17 at Barnacarroll, Claremorris at approximately 9.20 p.m..

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem will take place.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the accident, and no other injuries have been reported.

The road is currently closed for examination by forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and were travelling on the N17 between Claremorris and Knock yesterday evening between 8.45 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
