CHAMPIONSHIP DEFEAT: The Keenan's of Tarmonbarry sponsored adult men's team shipped a disappointing 0-11 to 0-6 defeat against Western Gaels in Tulsk on Sunday. After a good win in the opening round, the lads never fired and were outfoxed by a well-drilled and effective Geals outfit who dictated the terms of engagement from start to finish. St. Barry’s trailed by 0-5 to 0-3 at the break, with the team’s scorers coming from David Keenan and Emmett Conroy. John Murtagh was introduced and he was unlucky to see a shot come back off the crossbar. Mark Gilleran and Liam Egan accounted for St. Joseph’s only scores in the opening half as they trailed 0-9 to 0-2 at the break. Too many handling errors and poor shot selection had hurt the team in that first half but Joseph’s came back into the game with well-worked scores from Mark Gilleran (2) Cormac Dolan and Mickey Joe Egan. Further points from Kevin Glynn (mark) Mark Gilleran (free) and M.J. Egan brought the sides level. Ballinameen went back in front but Eoghan Gilleran and Mark Gilleran rescued a deserved draw for Joseph’s. Best for Joseph’s were goalkeeper Gary Reynolds, defenders Conor O’Malley, Johnny Mannion, Eoghan Gilleran, midfielders Kevin Glynn and Lee Kilroe, and forwards Mark Gilleran, Mickey Joe Egan and Cormac Dolan.
