Zac Mullally (centre, back) helped Marist College reach the Leinster Senior A final.

There was a strong Roscommon involvement this afternoon as Marist College came through a pulsating Leinster Senior A Post Primary Schools semi final with Ardee CS, prevailing 4-14 to 3-15 after extra time.

Zac Mullally (Clann na nGael) started in goal for Marist College while Tadhg Fallon and Sean McDonnell (both St. Brigid’s) lined out in defence.

Donal Dawson, who is a native of Knockcroghery, also featured prominently while John Timlin (Clann na nGael), Andrew Cotton and Aidan Brennan (both St. Dominic’s) came off the bench.

Diarmuid O’Higgins (Clann na nGael) missed out through injury.

This was a topsy turvy affair as Marist College found themselves eight points behind during an opening half in which they played against the elements.

They cut their deficit to three points at the interval before using the wind to good effect, moving four points up early in the second half.

However, Ardee CS proved stubborn foe and managed to move in front by two points, deep in injury time.

However, full forward James McHugh (Garrycastle) nailed a two-point free with the last kick of normal time before his goal in extra time, which brought his tally to 3-5, sealed a memorable win.

Marist will play the winners of Naas CBS and Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar, with those sides meeting on Friday.

Brian Murtagh (St. Faithleach’s) is part of the Mullingar side’s management team.
