Senior football championship heavyweights Boyle, Clann na nGael and Pádraig Pearses have been drawn together after the draw for the group stages of this year’s senior football championship took place in the Hodson Bay Hotel this evening.

Boyle defeated Clann in last year’s quarter-final before getting the better of Pádraig Pearses in the semi-final. St. Dominic’s, intermediate champions in 2022 and who enjoyed a solid start to life at senior level last season, make up the group.

Defending county and Connacht senior football champions, St. Brigid’s, will be satisfied with their group after being drawn alongside Michael Glaveys, St. Faithleach’s and Western Gaels.

Last year’s Roscommon and Connacht intermediate football champions, Castlerea St. Kevin’s, have been drawn in Group A alongside Roscommon Gaels, Tulsk Lord Edwards and Oran.

It was also confirmed at this evening’s draw that North Roscommon will play Mid/South Roscommon in a regional final, with the winner taking their place in a preliminary quarter-final against one of the third-placed teams.

Strokestown, who will be many people’s favourites for this year’s intermediate football championship, will have neighbours Kilmore alongside them in Group C, with last year’s Junior A football champions, St. Michael’s, and St. Brigid’s making up the group.

Last year’s beaten finalists, Éire Óg, have been drawn in the same group as St. Croan’s, Creggs and Fuerty in what looks like a very competitive group.

Elphin, under new manager Nigel Dineen, will be relatively happy to have been paired alongside Pádraig Pearses, Kilbride and Shannon Gaels in Group A.

St. Aidan’s, who were relegated from the intermediate football championship last season, have been handed a tough draw in the Junior A Football Championship after being drawn alongside Western Gaels, St. Barry’s and St. Ronan’s in Group A.

Last year’s beaten finalists, Clann na nGael, have St. Joseph’s, Ballinameen and Roscommon Gaels for company in Group B, while Kilglass Gaels will be relatively happy with their group, having been drawn alongside Boyle, Strokestown and Tulsk Lord Edwards.
