The Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team have qualified for the quarter-finals of this year’s All-Ireland championship at Woodmount this afternoon.
Ollie Lennon’s side comprehensively defeated a depleted Antrim side by 22 points to seal their place in the last eight of this year’s competition.
Antrim travelled to the home of Pádraig Pearses GAA Club with only 18 available players, and their afternoon didn’t get any better when their midfield pairing of Ana Mulholland and Omolara Dahunsi were forced out of the game through injury.
Dahunsi picked up what looked like a serious knee injury, which necessitated the game to be held up for ten minutes in the second half.
With the wind behind them, Roscommon were 1-7 to 0-1 ahead at the break, thanks to Lauren Shanagher’s fortunate goal just before the change of ends.
The floodgates eventually opened as Aisling Hanly (2), captain Niamh Feeney and substitute Aoife Gavin grabbed further goals to get Roscommon back on track following last weekend’s narrow loss against Wexford.
