Ravenous Roscommon prove too strong for Mayo

Roscommon’s minors secured their third win in as many games as a tremendous second half display saw them canter past Mayo.
Shane Moran’s side outscored their foes 2-7 to 1-4 in the final period despite playing against the breeze.
Roscommon outscored their foes 2-6 to 0-1 in the first 25 minutes of the second half to turn a three point half time lead into a 4-14 to 2-6 lead.
Despite Mayo answering with a Dara Flanagan goal, Roscommon were in complete control during the second half.
With wind advantage Roscommon produced a thunderous start as they roared 2-3 to no score ahead inside the opening 10 minutes.
After Alex Oates and a Sam Hannon two pointer, Dara Curran punched Luke Shally’s long delivery to the net.
From the resulting kickout the roles were reversed as Hannon won turnover ball before feeding Curran who in turn punched across goal for Shally to net.
Mayo were not deterred as they hit back with 1-4 without reply, the goal coming from Conor Jordan.
Hannon kicked a brace of two-pointers but a Conor Hession goal gave Mayo hope as they trailed by just three points at the interval, 2-8 to 2-5.
Despite playing against the breeze, Roscommon proved slick as they outscored Mayo 0-5 to 0-1 in the third quarter.
At the start of the final quarter a sensational Dean Casey ball found Dara Curran, who dodged two tackles before slamming home the game clinching third goal.
Christopher Feerick soon added a fourth with a top drawer finish to the roof of the net as Roscommon secured another major win.
