Roscommon GAA chief to take up new role this weekend

Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Brian Carroll, with incoming GAA President, Jarlath Burns.
The crowning of Jarlath Burns as the 41st President of the GAA this weekend will coincide with a new role for one of County Roscommon’s most well-known GAA officials.
Brian Carroll, Roscommon GAA Chairperson, will take up the role as chairperson of the CCCC (Central Competitions Control Committee) at annual Congress in Newry.
The CCCC has responsibility for the scheduling and arranging of all games under the control of Central Council.
It is also responsible for discipline within those games, and receives and makes the initial response to referees' match reports at national level.
Meanwhile, Seán Martin from St. Ronan’s GAA Club will depart his role as Referee Development Committee Chairperson.
The high esteem in which Seán was held during his time at the helm was marked by the GAA’s national panel of intercounty referees making a presentation of €7,350 to Cancer Care West recently.
According to
, Seán — often a popular and familiar face around Dr. Hyde Park on big match days — underwent treatment at Cancer Care West. Consequently, football and hurling referees around the country came together to organise the fundraiser and, in the process, demonstrate the high esteem in which was Seán was held.
