There were strong Roscommon links across the province last weekend as Rossies helped Sligo and Leitrim clubs to county titles.

In the Sligo SFC final, former Eastern Harps player, Shane King — a native of Drumdoe, Corrigeenroe in North Roscommon — managed Shamrock Gaels to the club's first Sligo SFC title since 1992.

Former St. Ronan’s player and County Roscommon referee, Patrick McTiernan, is also part of the management team.

Shannon Gaels defeated reigning county and Connacht champions Coolera/Strandhill 2-11 to 0-8 in what was their first county final appearance since 1994.

Meanwhile, Kieran Kilcline, who represented Roscommon at underage and adult level, scored 1-6 as Allen Gaels secured the Leitrim intermediate football title.

Kilcline starred up front as Allen Gaels’ romped to a 3-16 to 1-7 victory over St. Patrick’s Dromahair.

The win ensures they face Roscommon champions Strokestown at a Leitrim venue in the Connacht IFC semi-final on the weekend of November 15/16.
