A County Roscommon man will be hoping to make an impression with the next generation of Irish rugby players when he lines out in green later today.

Former St. Brigid’s and Roscommon underage footballer, Darragh Murray, has been picked on the Emerging Ireland team that face The Pumas in Bloemfontein on Wednesday (today) at 3 p.m..

Murray, from Brideswell, has made a huge impression since breaking into the Connacht ranks in October 2022.

The team, coached by Simon Easterby, Paul O’Connell and John Fogarty among others, are in South Africa for a three-game series that also includes Tests against Western Force on Sunday and The Cheetahs next Wednesday.

The tour is generally seen as a possible pathway into the national senior team further down the line as the Irish senior coaching set-up gets a look at some of the country’s most exciting young talent in a pressurised and competitive environment.
