Two County Roscommon women will be hoping to inspire Athlone Town to achieve a historic double this weekend.
Drum native Kayleigh Shine and Chloe Singleton from Monksland are part of the midlanders’ squad that will be aiming to retain the Sports Direct FAI Women’s Cup against Shelbourne in Tallaght Stadium on Sunday next.
Shine from Taylorstown, Drum in South Roscommon, was capped for the Republic of Ireland women’s U-19 team in 2019. She was part of the Roscommon ladies' football team that lost the All-Ireland Minor B championship final to Longford in the summer of the same year.
She has earned international caps at U-17 level, as well as representing Athlone Community College in the FAI Schools senior girls’ final five years ago.
While Singleton is currently injured, Shine is hoping that Athlone can achieve a historic double for the first time in the club’s history, having won a maiden Premier Division title a few weeks ago.
Shine and Singleton are former players of Bealnamulla LFC in South Roscommon.
