BARRY FEELY, RIP: Last week, the club lost one of its most loyal and steadfast supporters, Boyle GAA Club President, Mr Barry Feely. Barry has been a lifelong supporter of the club, both on and off the pitch. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Patrick J. Feely, who was one of the founding members of the GAA in County Roscommon. Barry’s father, Henry Feely, was a founding member of the Northern County GAA Board. Barry was a member of the 1964 junior championship-winning team. Once he hung up his football boots, he held many executive roles within the club over the course of 50 years. He was club treasurer in 1970. He held the position of club chairperson on two separate occasions during the seventies and eighties. He was also involved in the purchasing and development of the lands where Boyle’s current club pitch, Abbey Park, now stands. Barry’s family carry on the strong tradition of involvement in the GAA that their father taught them. His son Shane is the current club chairperson. His daughter Rhona has held several roles in the LGFA, including her current role as PRO. A number of his extended family hold numerous positions on the executive committee and also play at both senior and junior level with the GAA, LGFA and camogie clubs. The club extends its heartfelt condolences to Ursula, Rhona, Colin, Ciara, Finbarr and Shane, and to the extended Feely and Killoran families. Thank you to everyone who came out to take part in the guard of honour and who helped with traffic control for Barry’s removal at Feelystone. May Barry’s soul Rest In Peace.

TOM TURLEY, RIP: On Wednesday morning last, Pádraig Pearses GAA Club awoke to the very sad news that its President, Tom Turley, had passed away in the early hours of the morning. Tom, from Derrylahan in the parish of Moore was born to Michael and Bridget Turley into a family of four boys and six girls. From an early age, this big, tall, strong blonde young man seemed destined to shine on the football field. That he did, as a young player he proudly represented the parish of Moore. From 1962 onwards, he quickly became the indisputable and inspirational leader of the newly formed Pádraig Pearses team, which brought together Moore, Taughmaconnell and Creagh. In fact, despite his young years, he was involved with others who were years senior to him in bringing the reality of the current club to fruition. Thereafter, he came to symbolise what the Pádraig Pearses club could be, should be and is. Tom won Connacht SFC medals with Roscommon in 1961 and 1962, and played against Kerry in the 1962 All-Ireland SFC final. He also won a trio of Scór Sinsear county titles on the Pádraig Pearses team that achieved success in 1993, 2000 and 2001. In more recent years, Tom's honesty of endeavour in fostering and promoting all club activities in his role as Club President was the epitome of our club motto ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’ — ‘In unity there is strength’. Tom's passion for following Pearses teams in all codes never waned, and in recent months, he would still discuss with every visitor when he could next get to a match. His delight was clear when he got to witness the successes of our club teams, and only a few short months ago, he took supreme joy from the visit of the Fahey Cup to Derrylahan after last year's county senior football final success. To Tom's extended family — particularly his brothers Michael, Seán and Patrick, his sisters Mary (Hynes), Bridget (Murphy), Nancy (Galvin), Peggy (Hynes), Joan (Ryan) and Kitty (Cunniffe), as well as Tom's brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts Margaret Finn and Una Ashe, nephews, nieces, grandnieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends — the club extends its sincere sympathy. At Tom's Funeral Mass, it was mentioned that Tom once said that his reward for his service as Pádraig Pearses Club President was a “state funeral”. The club would like the acknowledge the efforts of so many volunteers who assisted in the club on Wednesday and Thursday last to give Tom the send-off he richly deserved.
