Elphin to host celebratory dinner dance in Percy French Hotel

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Well done to all the Boyle players who helped Roscommon to their first league win of the season against Down on Sunday last. The next game is against Louth on Sunday, February 2nd, in Páirc Mhuire, Ardee.

HEALTHY CLUB: The Healthy Club walks continue every Monday and Wednesday evening, starting off at the old dressing rooms at 8 p.m..
LOTTO: There was no winner last weekend’s lotto jackpot. A full list of winners is available on the club’s website.
LOTTO/BINGO: The storm hampered the club’s lotto and bingo plans as they were cancelled due to power outages at the pitch over the weekend. As businesses were closed, tickets couldn’t be collected. All will return to normal on Saturday, February 1st.
SCÓR NA NÓG: The club wishes to congratulate its Tráth na gCeisteanna team that competed in the All-Ireland Scór na nÓg finals in Monaghan. Although success didn’t come Kilglass Gaels’ way, the club is very proud of the team — Rory Conroy, Daniel Fallon, Domhnaill Diffley, Tara Hall along with mentors Eddie Conboy, Cian Diffley Brian and Seán Hall.
OTHER NEWS: Bonus ball (9) winners were Tianna Kelly and Jackie Rooney. The football season starts on Saturday, February 8th, for the men's team. More details on the game next week.

DINNER DANCE: The club had a fantastic night at its dinner dance, which saw 260 attendees in the Shearwater Hotel on Saturday, January 18th. Congratulations to all the winning championship teams and award winners, including a very popular Clubperson of the Year, Micheal Grenham.

Members for 2025 will have an opportunity to purchase the high-quality latest design Pádraig Pearses red jersey manufactured by O'Neills GAA. Any juvenile U-10, U-8, U-6 or nursey registrations up until March 31st can avail of this option for €15. The offer is limited to one jersey per registration and is only from U-10 age grade down. Jerseys are in stock and will be available for collection at the registration nights.
IRELAND LIGHTS UP: Thanks to 2025 Healthy Club Officer Antoinette Gallagher and her team for ensuring the club had a great turnout for the launch of Padraig Pearses’ Ireland Lights Up Walking Challenge earlier this month. The event was launched with a tea/coffee reception in the bar where Antoinette and Pádraig Pearses Chairperson Teresa Fitzgibbon addressed the gathering. This initiative is about getting people active and offering participants a chance to socialise and exercise as a community within the club grounds. The structured component of the challenge takes place at the club grounds every Monday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. All activity and steps recorded by members who sign up to the MyLife app count towards the club’s cumulative target.
DINNER DANCE: The club’s dinner dance in the Landmark Hotel was a great success on Saturday night. The club would like to thank everyone who came along and enjoyed the night. It was great to see so many of the club’s younger members in attendance. Shannon Gaels is lucky to have such a vibrant club. A special word of thanks to the staff of the Landmark Hotel, John Nugent, Featherhead and the hardworking committee of Nuala, James, Paddy, Teresa, Leoni, Ciarán, Aisling, Caroline, Charlie and Della. A big thank you to everyone who supported the Mayo Roscommon Hospice raffle. The total will be confirmed in due course.
SHOOTING STARS: If you have a child interested in joining Shannon Gaels or know of anyone wishing to join the club, please contact Alan at 086 3855334. The club’s Shooting Stars programme takes place between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. every Friday in the complex, Carrick.
NATIONAL CLUB DRAW: The club is currently selling annual club draw tickets. Tickets are €15. Every cent comes back to the club. Support for this fundraiser would be appreciated. Tickets can be bought from coaches, players and club officers.

ROSCOMMON TEAMS: Well done to Ciaráin and Diarmuid Murtagh, and the Roscommon senior men’s football team who got their 2025 Allianz Football League Division Two campaign off to a winning start with a high-scoring win over Down on Sunday afternoon. Well done and congratulations to Diarmuid who has been named as Roscommon vice-captain for the 2025 season. Hard luck to Ellen Irwin and the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ footballers who narrowly lost out to Monaghan in their opening fixture of the 2025 Lidl Ladies National League Division Two against Monaghan on Sunday.
CARDS: Cards continue in the clubhouse every Tuesday night. New players are always welcome.
QUIZ: The junior ladies are hosting a quiz night at the clubhouse on Friday, January 31st, starting at 8 p.m.. Please arrive early to ensure a seat. Tables of four cost €40. All are welcome.
MINOR CLUB: St. Faithleach’s Minor Club medal presentation will take place on Saturday, February 15th, at 6 p.m.. Any parents willing to volunteer or coach a team this season, especially at U-6, U-8 and U-10, should contact Steve Smith, Keith Curran or Claire Mullen.

SCOIL MHUIRE SUCCESS: Congratulations to the Scoil Mhuire Strokestown senior boys’ football team that qualified for the Connacht Colleges’ B final last week after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Ballyhaunis Community School (see match report, page 12). They will face either Oranmore or Roscommon CBS in the final.
THE ROSSIES: Well done to Colm Neary, Shane McGinley and the Roscommon senior footballers who got their Division Two League campaign off to a winning start on Sunday. A special congratulations to Colm who made his senior debut against Down and made this week's GAA Team of the Week. The club wishes the lads and all the team the best of luck as they travel to face Louth in Ardee this Sunday at 2 p.m..
