KILBRIDE

AGAINST ALL ODDS: With injuries mounting and several key players unavailable, the Kilbride U-20 footballers arrived for their Division Two semi-final against St. Aidan’s with just the bare 15 — no subs, and no margin for error. But what they lacked in numbers, they made up for in heart, grit, and sheer determination. From the outset, the odds were stacked against Kilbride. St. Aidan’s came out strongly, registering three unanswered points in the opening minutes. But Kilbride refused to be rattled. The team clawed their way back into the game with a mix of frees and scores from play, showing composure and resilience throughout. With momentum shifting, Kilbride’s confidence surged. Every player on the pitch gave everything for the jersey, covering ground, tracking back, and supporting each other in every phase of play. It was a true team performance. Three goals at key moments in the game by Luke Shally, Brian Keegan and Marc Shally were the edge that Kilbride needed to drive towards the end, However the game was not without its drama. In the dying moments of the game, St. Aidan’s were awarded a penalty — a golden opportunity to snatch victory. But Cian Trimble had other ideas. With nerves of steel, he pulled off a terrific save, keeping Kilbride’s hopes alive. The ball came back out the field and Aidan's were awarded with a free that saw Marc Shally receive a black card. But Kilbride held their defensive wall and kept one final threat from Aidan's at bay, ultimately securing their place in the final on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-18. Kilbride now advance to the county final where they’ll face Oran/St. Croan’s (date and time to be confirmed). Congratulations to the players, coaches and the supporters who turned up and made it an evening to remember. Team: C. Trimble (0-2, two frees), J. Campbell, J. Donlon, E. Kelleher, K. Cummins, J. O’Connor, C. Fannon, J. McCormack, C. Hayes, M. Shally (1-0), N. Kelly, D. Brennan, L. Shally (1-7, three frees), B. Keegan (1-1, one free), B. Tully (0-1). Management: C. Moran, J. Hayes, L. Tully, D. Battles.
