Roscommon hurlers secure first league win of 2025

Roscommon's Cathal Kenny and Armagh's Dáire Harvey battle for possession.

Roscommon 1-22

Armagh 0-10

Roscommon cruised to their first win of the Allianz Division 3 league as they proved far too strong for a below par Armagh outfit.

Kevin Sammon’s men had lost their opening game away to London but appeared at ease in King and Moffatt Dr Hyde Park to secure a valuable two points on the board.

Finn Killion, making his first league start struck a 39th minute goal but even before that stage, Roscommon were the dominant side as they controlled the middle third exchanges and supplied their inside line with quick and accurate deliveries.

Armagh meanwhile struck just five points from play as they struggled to make an impact with this win long secured before Alan Tierney’s full time whistle.

Roscommon saw Cian Murray receive a second yellow card after 57 minutes but by that stage the home side were 1-20 to 0-9 ahead and cruising.

Roscommon controlled this game throughout but struggled to shake Armagh off initially. They led 0-6 to 0-4 after 18 minutes with five different scorers finding the target.

With Conor Cosgrove imperious at centre back and James Hardiman effective in midfield, Roscommon gradually pulled clear.

They struck five points on the spin as Cosgrove fired over two inspirational efforts during this period. Armagh stopped the rot through Padraic McNaughton but Roscommon were finding gaps in the opposition rearguard as Cathal Kenny and Hardiman helped the winners lead 0-14 to 0-6 at the interval.

Armagh struck just four points in the final half as although Danny Magee slotted two early final period frees, Karl McKeegan’s side went only grabbed two points in the final 34 minutes of the game.

Killion took his goal with aplomb as Cathal Kenny continued to shine with the corner forward nabbing five points, all from play.

Roscommon showed their bite in attack with eight players finding the target on a day where they were simply superior across the park.
