Well-known club player and referee makes Masters cut with Ireland

Declan Woods (left) from Éire Óg will be part of the Ireland Men's Over 50s squad for next year's International Series against Australia.

One of County Roscommon’s most well-known club players for the past few decades has made the Ireland Masters Over 50 men’s squad for next year’s International Rules Series against Australia.

Declan Woods from Éire Óg GAA Club, who was part of this year’s Roscommon Masters squad, has been named in the squad by the Ireland management team that includes Anthony Carroll from Kilmore.

Woods plied his trade in the black and white of Éire Óg for many years. He is also a well-known GAA referee within the county.

Two test matches featuring Men’s Over 40s, Women’s Over 40s and Men’s Over 50s will take place in Mullagh, County Galway on March 9th and Denn, County Cavan on March 16th. Ireland's first-ever Over 50s squad includes players from 22 different counties.

The Over 50s squad is as follows: Seán McGreevey (Antrim), Mark Murray (Armagh), Patrick Mulligan (Cavan), Kieran Kennedy (Clare), Dave Creedon (Cork), Adrian Deery (Derry), Nicholas O'Neill (Down), Niall Ryan (Dublin), Pat Cullinane (Galway), Mike Coffey (Kerry), Noel Casey (Kildare), Derek O'Connell (Laois), Andy Breedy (Limerick), John Reddington (London), John Coyle (Longford/Leitrim), Mick Lundon (Louth), Pat Mulchrone (Mayo), Seán McCaughey (Mayo), Declan Woods (Roscommon), Damien Kelly (Sligo), David Whelan (Waterford), John Corcoran (Westmeath).
