COUNTY FINAL: The U-20 footballers were defeated by Oran/St. Croan’s on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-9 in their Division Two championship final in Lisnamult on Saturday last. Kilbride produced strong scoring bursts and showed plenty of fight, but Oran/St. Croan’s found the decisive edge in the closing stages. Accuracy from placed balls and crucial goals proved the difference, sealing a five-point win for Kilbride’s opponents. For Kilbride, the result should not overshadow what has been a strong and consistent campaign. As a small rural club battling limited numbers, their progress across multiple grades up to U-20 is a testament to its resilience and development. Their day will undoubtedly come. A further positive from this campaign has been the introduction of Jack Hayes and Cian Moran as team managers. Both were sidelined by injury this year but found another way to contribute, enhancing and developing the squad alongside co-managers Liam Tully and David Battles. Their commitment and leadership deserve huge credit and highlighted the depth of dedication within the club. COUNTY CHAMPIONS: The U-20 footballers brought the curtain down on the action for 2025 by winning the Division Three Championship, thanks to a convincing win over Tulsk in Strokestown on Saturday evening. A cagey opening period saw scores hard to come by as both teams took time to settle, but a couple of good scores from Cathal Connellan and a series of points from the threatening Cian Quinn helped the lads lead by 0-8 to 0-3 at the break. The team were able to keep Tulsk at arm’s length in the second half. When a long-range Tulsk free was fielded in the goalmouth by Tristan Hoey, it set up a sweeping team move that was well finished to the Tulsk net by Jack Doyle for the game's only goal — a score that effectively finished the game as a contest midway through the half. Tulsk fought to the end, and hit the net with the game’s last kick. But it was the Red and Black’s evening as they savoured championship glory. Well done to the lads and their backroom team of Stephen Donnelly, Conor Murphy, Gerard Nugent and Ultan Flynn. After being beaten in a couple of finals at this grade in recent years, it was good to get some silverware to finish the year. It was the first win for the club at this grade since 2009.
