MICHAEL JAMES KELLY, RIP: Michael Glaveys extends its deepest sympathy to the Kelly family on the death of their beloved Michael James — husband to Bernie, father to Michael, Brendan, Kevin, Ann Marie, Seán and Helen, as well as his sister Rose, his extended family and wide circle of friends. The club owes a great debt of gratitude to Michael James. His role in the development of Peadar Earley Memorial Park cannot be overstated. As a member of the development committee, he played a pivotal role in the development of the site. He was supervisor of the first Youth Employment Scheme. What stands today in Sampey’s Lawn is a fitting tribute to his contribution to the club and community. Michael James was also involved in coaching club teams, and was an outstanding fundraiser. His family will miss him most, but the Michael Glaveys family will be much the poorer for his passing.
LGFA NEWS: Well done to the U-19 ladies’ football team who played out a hard-earned draw, 4-10 apiece, against St. Croan’s in the Division Three Championship. Their next game is on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at home against St. Michael’s. Support would be appreciated.
U-15 FOOTBALLERS: The Northern Gaels U-15 footballers played Salthill-Knocknacarra B in the Division 3B Championship semi-final in Glenamaddy on Tuesday last. With the aid of the breeze, Northern Gaels got off to a good start, scoring some early goals and points to settle nicely into the game. All 15 players were on top of their opponents as Northern Gaels led at half time by 6-7 to 0-3. The trend continued in the second half and Northern Gaels won the game comfortably. There were several different scorers throughout the game with goals from Jack, Michael, Craig, Lee, Luke and Seán. Points were scored by Jack, Craig, Sean, Luke, Cillian and Dathaí. Thanks to Salthill-Knocknacarra for the match and to Glenamaddy GAA Club for the use of its facilities. The team will met St. Gabriel’s in the final (details to be announced).

UNDERAGE GAMES: The two parishes’ U-14 Division Four team got the championship off to a perfect start with an excellent win against Boyle on a scoreline of Oran/St. Croan’s 6-4, Boyle 4-8. Well done to everyone involved. Hard luck to the Oran/St. Croan’s U-16 boys who lost out to an exceptionally strong Pádraig Pearses team in the first round of the Division Two championship in Enfield on Monday evening. Despite goals from Kieran Murray and Dan Monaghan, it wasn't enough to bridge the gap to the large lead the visitors had built up with the strong wind in the first half. The U-16 Division Four team fared better against Kilmore/Shannon Gaels. They made a great start with two goals from Ciarán Cunnane and another by Dylan Hoban. Kilmore/Shannon Gaels came back into it in the second half, but goals from Donnacha Sweeney and Dylan Hoban alongside points from Aidan Harrington, Darragh Conroy and a nice two-pointer from Darragh Kelly procured a comfortable win. Best for Oran/Croan’s in the backs were Martin Bikoi, James O’Connor, and Luke Shaughnessy. Donnacha Sweeney and Darragh Kelly were dominant at midfield. In the forwards, Ciarán Cunnane, Oisín Finan and Player of the Match Dylan Hoban played very well.
