STROKESTOWN
PARKRUN CELEBRATING 5th BIRTHDAY
Strokestown parkrun is celebrating its 5th birthday and held its 147th run last weekend. Some of the participants were celebrating special parkrun milestones. Congratulations to Barry Lohan on his 100th parkrun and to Frances Doorly and Martina Farrell on their 50th parkrun. There was a wonderful atmosphere last weekend as the participants lapped the 5km course. It was a lovely dry crisp morning for the 54 participants, which included parkrun tourists from Mullingar, Lough Key and Longford. Lanesboro Tri Club was well represented as was Sliabh Ban Athletic Club. Well done to visitor Eiviltas Radavicius, first male and first lady was Therese Hanly of Lanesboro Tri Club. It was nice to see a few walkers enjoying the course. There was great stamina from the buggy handlers, Flynn, Esme and Bobbie enjoyed their rides with Bobbie giving a thumbs up each time he passed the finishing chute. All were delighted to see Ed Payne running after completing his Two Canal Challenge only a week ago, well done to Aaron Payne with a pb. Another super athlete Paddy Diffley had recently completed an Ironman in Cork and some long distance cycling in Hungary. Parkrun is back in the park on Saturday morning at 9.20 a.m.. Whether you run walk or jog you are welcome. It is a free 5km timed event. You just need to register www.parkrun.ie/register Print & bring along the barcode.
FLEADH COLLECTION
Roscommon has been allocated the hosting of the Connacht Fleadh 2024. Strokestown will be hosting the event. As part of a Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann fundraising drive for the event a church gate collection will be held in your area on the weekend of September 23rd and 24th. All donations will be very much appreciated.

LATE SISTER M. ANNUNCIATA FALLON
The death took place recently at Walmer House Nursing Home of Sister Mary Annunciata Fallon, S.R.N., of the Order of the Daughters of the Cross, Stoodley Knowle Convent, Torquay, England. A native of Fairymount, Kilrooskey, she was daughter of the late Mr Stephen Fallon and of the late Mrs Annie Fallon. The funeral will take place in England at a later date. She is survived by her brother, Michael; sister, Stephanie; sister-in-law, Breda; brother-in-law, David; nieces, nephews, aunt, Mrs Bridie Lannon (Ballinafad, Strokestown), her many cousins and the Sisters in her Religious Congregation to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
LATE MRS UNA PILKINGTON
The death took place recently at Four Ferns Nursing Home, Foxrock, County Dublin, of Mrs Winifred (Una) Pilkington (nee Madden) of Blackrock, County Dublin, wife of the late Mr Edward Pilkington. She was mother of Ms Justice Teresa Pilkington, a Judge of the Court of Appeal. A native of Caggle, Strokestown, she had previously resided in Wellington, New Zealand. She was predeceased by her brother, Mr Michael Madden (Caggle) and by her sisters, Miss Phyllis Madden (Caggle), Mrs Mary Jo Mullaney (Fourmilehouse), Mrs Bridie Coyle (Kilglass) and Mrs Gretta Snype (Derrane). The Funeral Mass takes place this Tuesday morning at the Church of St. Therese, Mount Merrion, and the interment follows in Shanganagh Cemetery, Shankill, County Dublin. She is survived by her son, Michael; daughters, Teresa, and Margaret; sister, Mrs Kathleen Whooley; grandchildren, Natasha, and Gregory; son-in-law, Colm; daughter-in-law, Sonia; nephews, nieces, extended family, and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

LATE MR TOMMY DONNELLY
The death took place recently at Mullingar General Hospital of Mr Tommy Donnelly of Lake View, Cloongarvin, Strokestown. He was a member of an old-established farming family in the locality. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, he was a popular member of his local community. News of his passing was heard of with deep regret among his relatives, neighbours and friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. Oliver Plunkett, Clooncraff (Half-Parish Church) and the interment followed in Clooncraff Cemetery. He is survived by his brother, Anthony; sister, Patsy, cousins and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
